Our Mission and Values
It is the mission of the Wallowa County Community Corrections Office to safeguard the lives and property of the people we serve, to try and reduce the crime and fear of criminal activity, to enhance public safety while working in the rural and diverse communities and to assist in improving the quality of life of our citizens and victims of crime. We do that job with honor and integrity with the highest ethical standards possible to help maintain the public confidence.
We are guided by the following principles:
- Respect: We recognize the inherent worth and dignity of all individuals.
- Accountability: We hold individuals responsible for their actions and enforce compliance with the conditions of their supervision.
- Prioritization: We identify offender risk levels to efficiently prioritize our resources.
- Effectiveness: We utilize evidence-based programs and strong community partnerships to achieve results.
Our services are designed to give people involved in the criminal justice system the opportunity to change by using evidence-based strategies that maximize our resources and results, and by our core belief that people can change.
Field Supervision and Duties
Our certified officers actively monitor individuals to ensure strict compliance with the specific conditions of their sentence or release order.
Field supervision is a proactive process of monitoring behavior and movement within the community. Our duties are diverse and designed to maintain public safety and deter future criminal conduct.
- Active Monitoring: Conducting unscheduled and unannounced contacts in offenders' homes, workplaces, our main office, and various community locations.
- Information Gathering: Collecting vital information from collateral sources (e.g., law enforcement, family, treatment providers, employers, etc).
- Community Presence: Serving as a visible resource and a deterrent to criminal behavior within Wallowa County.
- Coordination: Participating and collaborating closely with all treatment providers and law enforcement agencies.
- Reporting and Recommending: Providing comprehensive reports to releasing authorities and recommending appropriate treatment or interventions, appropriate sanctions for non-compliance, or the termination of supervision where the client is not amenable to community supervision and the purposes of supervision are not being served.
We prioritize our resources and intensive supervision efforts toward those individuals identified as posing the highest risk to re-offend, maximizing community safety and efficient use of public resources.
