Started in 2019, the Fund offers scholarships to both incoming college freshmen as well as upperclassmen pursuing degrees in natural resources.

The fund’s advisory committee will review the scholarship applications in early May and hold interviews the week of May 15. Awards will be announced ahead of the county’s high school graduation dates.

In 2023, the Fund awarded scholarships to Maclane Melville, Catherine Zeigler, and Ian  Goodrich.

  • Melville, an Enterprise High School graduate, is attending Treasure Valley Community College to earn an associate’s degree in Crop Science and a certification in welding and electrical  systems. Melville’s end goal is to return to Wallowa County and help run his family’s farming  operations.
  • Ian Goodrich, a Joseph High School graduate, is a two-time winner of the Bruce Dunn  Scholarship Fund. He is in his second year at Treasure Valley Community College and plans to transfer to a four-year university to study range science, agriculture, and business. Goodrich said he would like to pursue a career in natural resources that will bring him back to Wallowa County.
  • Catherine Zeigler, a Joseph High School graduate, is also a two-time time scholarship winner.  She is in her second year at the University of Idaho, where she is studying forestry. When she completes her degree, Zeigler said she would like to work in nurseries raising seedlings for reforestation.

The Bruce Dunn Scholarship Fund memorializes Bruce Dunn, a forester who served both his industry and the Wallowa County community for more than 30 years as well as helping prepare the next generation of natural resource professionals.

Wallowa Resources, with its focus on natural resources and outdoor education, is the Fund’s fiscal sponsor. Donations can be made to Wallowa Resources with “Bruce Dunn Scholarship  Fund” in the memo line and mailed to 401 Northeast First Street, Suite A, Enterprise, Oregon 97828.
